Attracting, nurturing, and planning for top talent

Back to Blogs

In Deloitte’s most recent Global Human Capital Trends report, their consultants spoke with business leaders around the world and found that finding qualified talent is among their biggest challenges.

Of course, to recruiters and human resources specialists, it doesn’t take the like of Deloitte to confirm this as one of our daily battles. However, it does go to show how important this topic is.

When you add up all the individual factors – travel restriction, skills shortages, new working models, automation adoption rates, senior staff retiring, etc - it’s no surprise that recruitment has evolved into an intensifying war for talent.

Getting recruitment right with the best strategies

Recruitment isn’t always easy, especially when it comes to attracting and securing top talent. From communicating the right values to onboarding the candidates properly, the recruitment strategies you use can make or break your hiring process. If construction, infrastructure, and engineering companies are to attract and retain the best candidates, they need to focus on more than just remuneration. Today’s employees are seeking more than a place to work, they want a working environment which is both stimulating and provides the growth they desire.

So, how can businesses attract an unfair share of top talent? Since setting up CGC over 10 years ago, we have helped many businesses identify and secure top talent. Of course, there are many ways to do that, however, we have found that, largely speaking, there are ten key strategies.

If you want to fill more positions, get better quality candidates and decrease your time to hire, there is more to it than great recruitment.

Here are five of our ten Strategies to Attract Top Talent

  1. Communicating a clear vision
  2. Differentiate your employer brand
  3. Being open
  4. Remuneration
  5. Supporting diversity
  6. And… click below for all ten strategies in more detail.

Every business and leader wants the best talent in the market, but sadly not every company works towards it. Merely wanting to attract the best talent will not produce results; organisations must make themselves attractive and deploy a mix of strategies.

Conclusion

Attracting and hiring the best candidates is, of course, critical in building high-performing teams – these candidates, however, are hard to attract and even harder to keep. It requires a subtle mix of alignment, goals, remuneration, project work, advancement, training, fit, and so on.

So, business leaders and recruiters must be careful they’re hiring the right people for the right reasons, after all just because someone is considered a top talent in one business doesn't mean they are a good fit for another. Whilst there are many strategies to attract top talent, which will depend on an individual business’s needs, a multi-prong approach is best.
