Job description
Our client are a mid tier construction company who work across the civil and construction industries on projects within the commercial, rail, government, heritage, education and residential spaces.
They are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Assistant Accountant, experienced in the construction sector, to support their finance team in maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. The ideal candidate will be eager to learn, highly organised, and capable of working in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements and management reports.
- Assist accounts payable and receivable functions, including invoice processing and reconciliation.
- Reconcile bank statements and maintain general ledger accounts.
- Support month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Process payroll and ensure compliance with tax regulations.
- Prepare and submit BAS, GST, and other statutory returns.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors and suppliers.
- Maintain and update financial records with a high level of accuracy.
- Support ad hoc financial projects and reporting as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or working towards qualification).
- 1–3 years of relevant experience in an accounting or finance role within the Infrastructure or Construction sectors.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., MYOB, Xero, SAP) and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Knowledge of relevant tax laws and accounting principles.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
